Red Hat Buys Spanish Mojo to Make It a BPM Star

Red Hat said the recent introduction of BPM capabilities in BRMS has expanded its reach to a wider business community

Red Hat has bought the business process management (BPM) technology developed by 10-year-old Polymita Technologies SL, a Barcelona start-up whose widgetry Gartner rated as having the "most unified architecture" and needing the "shortest implementation times in the BPMS market."

Red Hat is going to move the stuff into its synergistic JBoss Enterprise Business Rules Management System (BRMS). The two will be converged and JBoss will get expanded capabilities.

Red Hat said the recent introduction of BPM capabilities in BRMS has expanded its reach to a wider business community. It figures the combination of BRMS with Polymita's technology can position it as "a leading vendor in the BPM marketplace" in competition with Appian and practically all the brand name players.

Red Hat middleware boss Craig Muzilla said in a statement that "Organizations that do not empower their business users to quickly and effectively modify automated business processes forfeit the ability to remain agile, competitive and relevant."

Polymita is supposed to have a user-friendly interface and its workflow capabilities are designed to enhance productivity and collaboration while increasing control and visibility over business activities.

Red Hat says it will open source "key parts of the acquired Polymita technology." They will also be combined with some existing JBoss community projects to evolve as independent projects or a combination of both.

Red Hat says it intends to develop an integrated product roadmap over the next few months.

Polymita technology works in the cloud like JBoss Enterprise BRMS.

Red Hat says the transaction, whose terms are undisclosed, won't have a material impact on its financial statements this fiscal year.
